The Process of Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis is the process of plants making their own food using sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water. These three ingredients are collected in 3 different ways. First, the carbon dioxide is procured by tiny holes in the leaves called stomata. The water is absorbed from the ground and passes through a tube in the stem called xylem. Then, the sun's energy is absorbed by a chemical in the plant called chlorophyll, which is also responsible for making plants green. This energy is used to break water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. The carbon dioxide and hydrogen are used to make glucose, or natural sugar, for fruits, and the oxygen is let out by passing through the stomata.
